Lego Unveils 12 New Pokémon Sets Featuring Innovative Smart Play Technology

Lego has unveiled an exciting new collection of Pokémon sets that significantly enhances the range of brick-built pocket monsters. This lineup features 12 sets, each showcasing at least one Lego rendition of a beloved Pokémon character. Similar to the Star Wars sets introduced earlier in 2026, these new Lego Pokémon sets incorporate innovative Smart Play technology. Pre-orders are available now, and each purchase comes with a special gift.

Smart Play utilizes a compact piece of tech known as a Smart Brick, which elevates the interactivity of Lego sets. These advanced features include dynamic lighting and responsive sound, all packed into a size comparable to a standard Lego brick. Smart Bricks can interact with Smart Tags and Smart Minifigures, creating a play experience that is “endlessly responsive,” according to Lego. For instance, in the Star Wars sets, players can use Smart Play to mimic the sounds and visuals of a ship engaging in battle.

The new Pokémon sets highlight some of the most iconic creatures, including Squirtle, Charmander, Bulbasaur, Jigglypuff, Pikachu, Mewtwo, Eevee, Gengar, Mew, Garchomp, and Charizard. While some sets focus on individual Pokémon, others feature pairs, such as Geodude, Lapras, Umbreon, Cubone, Bidoof, and Jolteon. The complexity of the sets varies, with smaller ones containing fewer than 100 bricks, while the largest model boasts nearly 850 pieces.

According to a Lego press release, “Children can feed their Lego Pikachu a brick-built Lego Smart Tag sandwich or tickle their Lego Charizard to get a joyful laugh. The more they play, the stronger the bond, as they prepare for spectacular battles with friends and family.”

The Jigglypuff set exemplifies the potential of Smart Play. Fans of the Pokémon anime will recognize that the pink puffball loves to sing its songs, often getting upset if listeners fall asleep. The Lego Jigglypuff Concert set comes with a microphone and a boombox, likely featuring a catchy Lego jingle. Each set is designed with unique sounds that enhance the battle experience, and players can even use a potion to heal their Pokémon.

Among the announced sets, only two include Smart Bricks: the Training House with Pikachu (1 Smart Brick) and the Charizard vs. Jolteon Ultimate Battle (2 Smart Bricks). Other sets will require fans to purchase Smart Bricks separately or obtain them from a Star Wars Smart Play set.

Lego is also offering a gift with every purchase called Ditto as Squirtle: Movie Night. This set transforms TV time into a fun experience, allowing users to change channels and access a remote control and movie within the model. It includes a SMART Tag and space for a SMART Brick from an All-In-One Set (sold separately), which activates the interactive features, bringing Ditto as Squirtle to life with dynamic lights, sounds, and interactions. This building set contains 185 pieces.

While Smart Bricks and their higher price points have sparked some debate, the allure of the Pokémon brand may outweigh any hesitations. The company has successfully sold high-priced Pokémon sets, such as this year’s massive 6,838-piece starter trio, which sold out almost instantly despite its $649.99 price tag.

Lego fans have until June to cast their votes for their favorite Pokémon among Mew, Gyarados, Arceus, Rowlet, and Joltik.
