New Gameplay Footage Reveals 10 Minutes of Intense Action in Marvel’s Wolverine
During the recent State of Play broadcast, Insomniac Games unveiled a treasure trove of exciting details about Marvel’s Wolverine, set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15. The new gameplay footage made it clear that Insomniac is fully embracing the gritty nature of this title, showcasing Wolverine as a rugged, muscular hero ready to take on any challenge this fall.
Just take a look at those massive arms! Wolverine’s healing factor is just one of his many mutations.
Before the gameplay reveal, director Marcus Smith shared that the story revolves around Wolverine racing against time to rescue a group of kidnapped mutants. However, he soon realizes he’s not the only mutant on this mission.
According to additional insights, Logan is pursuing a group of mutants captured by the Reavers, a mercenary cybernetic militia. Their sinister plan involves delivering the mutants to Bolivar Trask, a billionaire with a dangerous obsession with human supremacy. The narrative also introduces Jean Grey, a powerful telekinetic and emerging leader among the captured mutants.
The gameplay showcases an extended in-engine sequence where Wolverine navigates through a horde of enemies in what looks like an abandoned factory or shipping yard. In a thrilling moment, Logan leaps from a rooftop and impales an enemy with his claws after a dramatic drop.
This isn’t a game where non-lethal tactics are the norm; Logan is brutally dispatching foes with his adamantium claws, leaving a trail of blood in his wake. One particularly shocking moment features him taking down an enemy with prosthetic legs. Throughout the footage, we see Wolverine’s healing factor in action, as wounds rapidly close up, and even his suit appears to regenerate from damage.
The action escalates as Logan jumps between vehicles, unleashing chaos on his opponents. At one point, he’s run over by a semi-truck but quickly recovers, allowing himself to be dragged along the road. When he finally reaches the mutants he’s been tracking, a young green mutant asks, “Are you a superhero?” to which Logan growls, “No, kid. I’m Wolverine,” as a bullet grazes his arm.
Pre-orders for Marvel’s Wolverine are now open, with the game priced at $69.99. Those who pre-order will receive exclusive bonus items. A Digital Deluxe Edition will also be available for $79.99, featuring additional bonuses.
Marvel’s Wolverine marks a significant shift from Insomniac’s previous superhero titles, particularly the three Spider-Man games. While Spidey’s combat is non-lethal, Wolverine’s approach promises to be much more intense. In a previous State of Play presentation, Insomniac highlighted the game’s advanced “blood tech,” showcasing a moment where Wolverine drives his claws through an enemy’s jaw. The game aims to explore Logan’s darker, more brutal take on heroism.
This original story will take players through various iconic Marvel locations, including the Canadian wilderness, Japan, and Madripoor, with familiar characters like Mystique, Jean Grey, Sabertooth, and Omega Red making appearances.
