Stuntman Returns with Thrilling Action Inspired by Knight Rider, Miami Vice, and Mad Max

One of the standout announcements from today’s State of Play was the return of Stuntman: Hollywood, a revival of the classic PlayStation 2 series where players execute stunts on fictional movie sets.

Similar to Stuntman: Ignition, this new installment appears to center around vehicle-based stunts, turning the racing and vehicle-combat aspects of filmmaking into an engaging gameplay experience. Developed by Saber Interactive, known for their work on titles like Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and World War Z, the studio’s experience with licensed games seems to have paved the way for incorporating real-world franchises into Stuntman: Hollywood.

While earlier entries in the Stuntman series featured players acting in fictional films, the reveal trailer for Stuntman: Hollywood showcases vehicles from iconic series such as Miami Vice, Knight Rider, Back to the Future, and Death Race.

A recent blog post provided additional insights into the game. The developers have drawn inspiration from titles like Burnout and Split/Second, but the core of the game revolves around performing stunts during movie shoots tied to actual Hollywood franchises.

The game is organized into an episodic format, with each “episode” offering players a variety of challenges. These can range from straightforward drifting tasks to intense scenarios where players must evade gunfire while under attack. By completing main objectives and bonus challenges, players can earn stars to progress through the game and unlock new items for their garage.

While seeing licensed vehicles in games is common, it’s typically in standard racing titles like Forza Horizon 6. Stuntman: Hollywood seems to be taking a more dynamic and franchise-focused approach to its licensing, making it exciting to anticipate how many franchises Saber will incorporate into the game.

Stuntman: Hollywood is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, though a specific release date has yet to be announced.
