Highlights from PlayStation’s Summer State of Play Showcase
It’s that exciting time of year again—Summer Game Fest week! This means a flurry of showcases as the gaming world fills the E3-sized gap in June. Sony kicked things off with a State of Play stream, unveiling a lineup of upcoming PS5 titles from both its in-house studios and external developers. If you missed the live show, you can catch it below, or just stick around for the highlights.
First up is Wolverine, the latest Marvel title from Insomniac. The demo features Logan stealthily navigating a facility where mutants are being held captive, before unleashing some serious carnage on the guards. The violence is unapologetically intense, which is a refreshing choice. Logan isn’t alone in this mission; Jean Grey joins the fray, using her psychic abilities to assist him in rescuing the mutants from Trask Industries.
The gameplay showcases some epic team-up moves, with Jean immobilizing an enemy while Logan goes to town on them. Following that, there’s a thrilling chase scene where Logan hops on a motorcycle to pursue the trucks transporting the mutants. The footage hints that Wolverine can utilize his healing factor to recover if his health hits zero—curious to see how many times players can pull that off before facing a game over. The game is set to launch on PS5 on September 15, and it looks fantastic.
The Marvel excitement continues with a new trailer for Arc System Works’ Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. This trailer introduces a new team called the Knights of Doom, featuring a mix of iconic villains like Doctor Doom, Magneto, the Green Goblin, and Carnage. The roster is shaping up nicely ahead of Tōkon’s release on PS5 and PC on August 6.
One of the standout Rayman titles is getting a fresh coat of paint with Rayman Legends Retold, a complete remake of the beloved sidescroller. It’s set to release on October 1.

Next on the list is Kemuri: Hunt the Unseen, a fast-paced, anime-inspired co-op action game set in an open world. Up to three players can team up to battle various demonic foes when it launches in 2027. This project comes from Unseen, led by Ikumi Nakamura, known for her work on titles like The Evil Within and Okami.

Bungie showcased new content for the recently launched second season of Marathon, featuring a new zone, shell, modes, and more.
Sony highlighted several games coming to PlayStation Plus, including Runescape: Dragonwilds, which will be available on PS5 this fall. The Classics catalog will also see additions like Gitaroo Man in June, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy in July, and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in August.
In a surprising announcement, Firesprite is developing Until Dawn 2, featuring a new cast of ghost hunters who typically fake their content but end up facing real horrors. It’s set to release on PS5 in 2027.
Closing out the show is the much-anticipated God of War spin-off, Laufey. This game will focus on Faye, Kratos’ wife, who had passed away by the time the 2018 reboot began. The story picks up shortly after her death, as she finds herself in an unfamiliar part of the Nine Realms. Although she lacks her trusty Leviathan Axe, she wields a sword and some magical abilities, hinting that her current challenges are more difficult than they should be, suggesting a loss of power. In this afterlife realm, she encounters what appear to be Egyptian gods, previously teased as potential characters in future God of War installments. There’s also a mysterious gelatinous cube and talking ribbons attached to her new sword. While it seems she’s navigating a divine afterlife, it’s uncertain if we’ll see familiar faces from past God of War games that Kratos defeated in Greece. Unfortunately, Laufey doesn’t have a release date yet, leaving us to wonder if it will arrive before or after the planned God of War trilogy remake.
