Twitch Chat During PlayStation Showcase Flooded with Demands for Destiny 3

PlayStation recently held a State of Play showcase to unveil new PS5 titles and showcase trailers, but the Twitch chat was dominated by one topic: Destiny 3 and the news that Bungie isn’t currently developing it. Throughout the hour-long event, viewers flooded the chat with demands for a sequel to the beloved loot shooter, which is set to sunset later this month.

As Wolverine was busy taking down enemies on screen, the chat was filled with messages like #WeWantDestiny3 and a custom Destiny 3 emote created by popular streamer Aztecross. He had previously declared that he wouldn’t return to Marathon if Bungie decided to end Destiny 2.

“I don’t want to play Marathon,” he stated last month. “I might check in occasionally, but I want Destiny. I want Destiny 3. I want this universe to grow. And if I have to take matters into my own hands to make that clear, I will. I’ll do everything I can to make sure it happens.”

This sentiment has sparked a movement among fans to boycott Bungie’s new game until they commit to developing Destiny 3. A petition advocating for this has already collected over 330,000 signatures. Some players are even rallying to flood Destiny 2’s servers when its final update drops on June 9, while others are still grieving the studio’s last-minute decision to scrap the previously promised summer expansion.

During the PlayStation showcase, the frustration was palpable. One of the few moments when the stream of Destiny 3 emotes paused was when Sony promoted Marathon’s season 2, which launched earlier that day.

“Booooooo,” one viewer commented. “I will never play Marathon,” another added.
