Stargate SG-1 Actor Calls on Fans to Rally Support for Amazon Reinstatement
Michael Shanks, known for his role as Daniel Jackson in Stargate SG-1, is rallying fans to sign a petition aimed at persuading Amazon to reverse its decision on the recently canceled Stargate series. He believes this may be the final opportunity to continue the franchise with involvement from the original creators and performers.
Reports surfaced earlier this week indicating that the unnamed Stargate revival, which was first announced in November 2025, has been unofficially scrapped by Amazon. The series was to be helmed by Martin Gero, a veteran writer and producer associated with various entries in the Stargate universe, including Stargate SG-1, Stargate Universe, and Stargate: Atlantis.
According to the initial report, Amazon’s executives expressed concerns that the series might not attract a wide audience beyond the existing Stargate fanbase, a claim that both Shanks and writer Joseph Mallozzi have challenged.
Shanks later urged fans to voice their support for a continuation featuring the original creators and performers, stating, “If you are at all interested in a Stargate show with ANY of the original creators/performers involved, now is the time to say something. Otherwise, it really will be the end of that chapter forever. Let them know you are THERE.”
He has encouraged fans to actively engage with Amazon’s social media and sign a petition to “Revive the Stargate Franchise,” which has garnered nearly 42,000 signatures. While reports indicate that Amazon remains interested in producing a follow-up to the Stargate franchise, there seems to be reluctance to bring back the original cast for any future projects.
Although Shanks was not listed in the cast for the canceled series, his history of portraying Daniel Jackson in various direct-to-video and live-action Stargate spinoffs, along with his passion for the franchise, strongly suggests he was poised to reprise his role in Amazon’s revival.
