Elden Ring Set to Launch on Switch 2 Following Delays and Performance Issues

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is one of the standout titles making its way to the Switch 2, but it faced some serious performance issues during its initial showcase at last year’s Gamescom. In fact, there were reports that players were restricted from sharing gameplay footage due to these problems. After some much-needed polish, FromSoftware’s celebrated RPG now has a release date for the Switch 2, and it’s just around the corner.

FromSoftware has confirmed that Elden Ring will launch on Switch 2 on August 28, a little over 14 months after the console’s debut. A recent hands-on experience at this year’s Game Developers Conference revealed that the game is running much better now, with impressions noting it was “extremely fine” and “did not run like garbage.” Once you get over the excitement of playing on a handheld, that’s really what you want from a port, right?

Your adventure in the world of the Erdtree starts here. Rise, Tarnished. #ELDENRINGTarnished Edition is set to arrive on #NintendoSwitch2 on August 28, 2026.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will feature the base game along with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, plus some exclusive cosmetics that haven’t appeared on other platforms yet. The armor, weapons, and customization options will eventually make their way to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

The Switch 2 continues to see older titles being ported over a year after its launch, and overall, they seem to be performing quite well, despite a few rocky starts that required patches. Cyberpunk 2077 was a solid port at launch, while titles like Skyrim had to be refined post-release. Some developers are still holding back their major titles from the system, like Gearbox with Borderlands 4, while Capcom appears to be thriving with its Resident Evil ports on the device.
