Exciting Steam FPS Launches Sooner Thanks to Positive Player Feedback

Release date delays are a common occurrence in the gaming world, making it a pleasant surprise when a game is ready to launch ahead of schedule. Wardogs, an upcoming first-person shooter from Bulkhead, is one of those rare cases. The developers have announced that Wardogs will enter early access on Steam much sooner than anticipated, thanks to overwhelmingly positive feedback from pre-release testing.

In a message shared on the game’s official social media, the team expressed their excitement: “We have reached an inflection point in our journey. The feedback from thousands of testers is very positive; players are telling us our performance and optimization have exceeded their expectations, and most importantly, they’re saying the game is fun. As a result, we have made the decision to bring forward our early access release date. Wardogs will be releasing into early access later this summer.”

According to its Steam page, Wardogs is described as a “tactical all-out warfare FPS where 100 players split across three teams fight over the control zone.” The trailers suggest a strong Battlefield influence, but in a Q&A video earlier this year, the developers clarified their goal of striking a balance between arcade-style shooters and more realistic gameplay.

The statement also highlights the studio’s realistic expectations: “Our goal was never to be the biggest FPS. It was to build a healthy, sustainable community and to learn from past mistakes and apply those lessons to Wardogs. We have planned to sustain a community of 3,000 to 5,000 players, and anything beyond that is a bonus.”

You might remember Battalion 1944, Bulkhead’s 2019 FPS that offered a competitive environment akin to Counter-Strike and Valorant, known for its precise shooting mechanics. While it saw some success, the studio later acknowledged that it couldn’t maintain the player base necessary for long-term viability. Consequently, support for Battalion 1944 was eventually discontinued, and it now exists only as Battalion: Legacy, with a dwindling player count.

With the launch of Wardogs on the horizon, all eyes are on Bulkhead, especially given their previous FPS experience and the high expectations that come with it. A new gameplay trailer is set to debut during the Future Games Show at 3 p.m. EDT on Saturday, June 6.
