God of War’s Laufey Director Addresses Doubts: “Is It Fun?”

Earlier this week, Sony unveiled God of War Laufey, the latest installment in the beloved action series. This time, players will step into the shoes of Faye, Kratos’ deceased wife, as she navigates a mystical afterlife filled with gods and magical beings. While the concept sounds intriguing, some segments of the gaming community are expressing frustration over a game featuring a female protagonist. Others are concerned that the franchise might be sidelining Kratos. However, Laufey’s director is eager for players to give the game a fair shot.

In a recent interview, the game director, Ariel Lawrence, addressed the skepticism surrounding this new direction for the franchise. She acknowledged the concerns but expressed her hope that players would embrace the opportunity to explore Faye’s story.

“I want to be as truthful as I can to Faye’s experience and to really show her to be the warrior that Kratos fell in love with, that changed his life,” Lawrence shared. “I want to see who that person is, and I hope fans will come along on the journey with us. I’m thrilled about the mythological possibilities and the magic we can encounter moving forward.”

Lawrence emphasized the importance of fun and adventure in the game, noting the challenge of maintaining surprise in today’s gaming landscape. “It’s tough to keep players guessing when everyone seems to know how things will unfold. I’m hopeful that we can create an experience filled with mystery.”

One thing that remains clear is Kratos’ future in the series. Many skeptical fans feared he might be permanently written out, but the studio has reassured players that this isn’t the case, a sentiment Lawrence reiterated.

“I don’t think people should be afraid that Kratos isn’t going to be there for them,” she stated. “We’ve got remakes on the way, and there are plenty more stories to tell for Kratos. I hope everyone allows him to continue the growth he’s experienced over the last few games.”

God of War Laufey is set to launch on PS5 in the future.
