A Guide to Completing The Vanished Warder in Gothic Remake

Once you reach the Old Camp in Gothic Remake, you’ll need to tackle several quests to finish the Casting Shadows quest for Diego. One of these is The Vanished Warder quest, which you can grab from Sly near the gate. He’ll ask you to track down his missing friend Nek, which involves chatting with various characters and ultimately locating the lost warder.

To save you from wandering aimlessly in search of Nek—something that’s easy to do without a map—I’ll break down the key steps below.

After initiating The Vanished Warder quest with Sly, he’ll direct you to Fletcher, a warder located by the arena and your shack on the left side of the Old Camp. Fletcher will then send you to Guy, a miner in the same vicinity, who will point you to Snaf, the chef near the gates. Eventually, you’ll discover that Snaf sent Nek out to gather hellcap mushrooms.

While you don’t have to talk to these characters to find Nek, it’s a great way to learn more about the Old Camp and its residents. In fact, my quest glitched, preventing me from speaking to Guy or Snaf about Nek, but I was still able to complete it—so don’t worry about rolling back your save if you encounter the same issue.

To locate Nek, follow these steps:

When you talk to Sly, he’ll ask for proof of Nek’s demise. You can either give him the amulet or keep it to yourself. I suggest handing over Nek’s amulet so Sly can put in a good word for you with Diego.

Since Snaf sent Nek to gather various ingredients, this is also a great chance to complete both The Forgotten Recipe and Snaf’s Recipe quests. Just grab the nearby hellcap mushrooms and solanaceae, as they are two of the ingredients you’ll need.
