Mining Ore in Gothic Remake: Explore More Profitable Options!

Gathering ore in the Gothic Remake can be quite the challenge, especially since you’ll find yourself paying off warders for protection and shelling out for even the most basic gear to survive. In the Valley of the Mines, protective armor, decent weapons, and magic are all considered luxuries, and they come at a steep price.

Fortunately, there are several ways to earn some coin, though many require an initial investment in skill development. Mining ore is a straightforward method to start accumulating currency early on, but as you delve deeper into the game, it’s wise to explore more profitable avenues.

At the beginning, it’s a good idea to collect everything you come across to sell later, particularly herbs and mushrooms, which can fetch a surprising amount of gold. You’ll need all the ore you can gather to purchase a map and gear that isn’t completely useless.

As you progress, you should start raking in ore, especially if you follow the main quest and tackle dungeons like the goblin cave and orc cemetery. The humanoid enemies you encounter drop valuable weapons that can be sold for a nice profit.

There are effective ways to earn ore in Gothic. As you explore the colony, you’ll find yourself battling molerats, scavengers, wolves, lizards, and other creatures. You can learn hunting skills from Drax, a bald hunter located on the right side of the road after you exit the mine into the central valley at the game’s start.

He’ll ask you to fetch him a beer first, but you should have already found a few in chests within the mine and at the goods exchange. Gaining hunting skills allows you to extract more materials from the monsters you defeat, making your efforts more rewarding.

You can also learn advanced hunting techniques from Cavalorn, who resides in his house west of the Old Camp. To do this, bring him the Beasts of Khorinis II book from the Old Mine, along with the Minecrawler Queen’s gland. Keep an eye out for more Beasts of Khorinis books scattered throughout the map to enhance your hunting income.

If you’re feeling a bit more unscrupulous, consider stealing. You can either lockpick or pickpocket (though it’s wise to get some training first), or you can simply mug people. If someone challenges you, take them down and loot their belongings—they would have done the same to you. If you can lure wild animals to attack someone, do it, as that’s how I snagged my first decent sword.

For those keen on mugging, head to the lawless New Camp in the west. The trader Mordrag can escort you there; you can find him on the east side of the market area in the south of the Old Camp, sitting on a bench near a shack.

Once you reach the Old Camp, if you have 10 learning points from leveling up and 50 ore, you can learn one-handed smithing from Huno, whose forge is just south of the upper level of the arena, near your shack and bed. With this skill, you can craft weapons from materials you steal or find, then sell them for profit.

If you’re looking for an easy blueprint, the Light Club (Mace) can be found early in the game by climbing the rocks on the left side of the area above the locked mine entrance. Defeat the goblin and other enemies there to grab this blueprint from their den.

You can also find the Sword of Judgement blueprint in the mine located in the northwest of the colony, specifically on the desk by Ian at the bottom of the mine, which you need to visit during Diego’s Test of Faith quest as part of joining the Old Camp. This is particularly useful since the mine is also a key location for money-making.

As you explore goblin caves and orc territories later on, you’ll discover that selling weapons can be quite profitable. Taking down large groups of humanoid enemies can yield a significant amount of ore as you loot and sell their weapons.

While it may be a slow process, if you’re determined, you can accumulate a lot of ore. With a pickaxe in hand, you can mine the blue ore deposits in the northwest mine. Simply approach an ore node and interact with it. You’ll receive three ore for the first few interactions, then just one as the deposit’s shine diminishes.

You can also collect stray ore nuggets from around other miners or from the large ore piles in the lower sections of the mine. It may be a tedious and slow grind, but it will help you build a small stash of ore to invest in other money-making skills.
