Geralt of Rivia is known for his monster-slaying prowess, but his successor is a creature of the night himself. This is evident in the latest trailer for The Blood of Dawnwalker, unveiled by developer Rebel Wolves during the 2026 Summer Game Fest showcase.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world action RPG set in a dark-fantasy rendition of 14th-century Europe. Players step into the shoes of Coen, a bearded warrior skilled in medieval combat, who spends his days battling sinister beings. If this sounds reminiscent of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it’s no coincidence, as Rebel Wolves is made up of former Witcher developers.
The Summer Game Fest trailer reveals Coen’s transformation, seemingly triggered by the Temu Knight King, and showcases him attacking unsuspecting humans—gotta satisfy that hunger. Coen engages in various vampire antics, from sprinting across rooftops and teleporting short distances (thanks to a skill reminiscent of Blink) to using telekinesis to obliterate human corpses and engaging in swordplay with a massive alligator…slug…creature.
The developers continue to explore the blurred lines between humanity and monstrosity.
Rebel Wolves hinted that the open-world vampire saga will extend beyond the September release of Blood of Dawnwalker. A second trailer from the Summer Game Fest depicted Coen in modern times, slumped in a chair, weary and ordering bags of blood, much like one might order takeout after a rough night.
“His journey begins in a dark 14th-century fantasy world—a setting that players have come to love. While it may feel familiar, the unique Carpathian Mountains backdrop will allow us to deliver unexpected twists,” said narrative director Jakub Szamałek. “Future chapters of his saga will introduce new stories and characters, set in different eras, locations, and cultures.”
The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to launch on September 3 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
