Clockwork Revolution: A Whimsical RPG Inspired by BioShock

Developer inXile Entertainment recently unveiled a fresh look at Clockwork Revolution during the Xbox Games Showcase. This action RPG has also received a release window, set to launch sometime next year.

The trailer highlights a vibrant cast of characters, including the robot Nazim and the stylish “Anne Fucking Darrow,” who sports a bowler hat. After a heist goes awry, your character is thrust through time, embarking on a quest to reshape history.

Clockwork Revolution is a first-person action game that drew immediate comparisons to BioShock upon its reveal in 2023. Players take on the role of a time traveler navigating pivotal moments in the creation of Avalon, a steampunk city. As with other choice-driven RPGs, your decisions will impact the storyline, the city, and its inhabitants — ultimately influencing history itself. “In Clockwork Revolution, we’re elevating roleplaying reactivity to new heights, infused with the unique texture and personality that you’ve come to expect from our games,” stated studio head Brian Fargo at the announcement.

While last year’s Xbox showcase featured an extensive trailer, the release date for Clockwork Revolution remained a mystery until now. The game is set to launch in 2027 for Windows PC and Xbox Series X. Unfortunately for PlayStation and Nintendo fans, Xbox’s chief content officer Matt Booty has confirmed that this title will be an Xbox-console exclusive.
