After nearly a decade since the launch of Persona 5, the next installment, Persona 6, has been officially revealed by Atlus. While a release date is still under wraps, the game will be available on both PlayStation and Xbox consoles, marking a notable shift for the Shin Megami Tensei series, which has primarily been a PlayStation staple. The announcement came during an Xbox showcase, and although we only caught a brief glimpse of the game, it’s exciting to know it’s finally in the works.
The teaser trailer presents a haunting graveyard scene, featuring a headless statue at its center. A man’s hand reaches out to touch the statue, triggering vivid flashes that resemble blood coursing through veins. This imagery evokes a dark, intense vibe reminiscent of the Nine Inch Nails “Closer” video or the transformation scene from Twilight: Breaking Dawn. It hints at a return to the series’ grittier roots, contrasting sharply with the lighter high school antics seen in more recent titles.
Of course, in the Persona universe, a graveyard could easily be located near a high school. In Persona 3, for instance, the main characters’ school morphed into a towering 100-story dungeon filled with monsters at night. Clearly, supernatural elements are at play!
While we didn’t get a comprehensive look at the protagonist or the game’s setting, it has been confirmed that green will be the primary color theme, a detail fans have speculated about for some time. The previous entries in the series each had their own distinct color: blue for Persona 3, yellow for Persona 4, and red for Persona 5. (I was personally hoping for purple, but green works too.)

The year 2026 will mark the 30th anniversary of the Persona series, and there have been hints that it will be a year of celebration, leading fans to anticipate more announcements. Since the global release of Persona 5 in 2017, the series has skyrocketed in popularity, especially following the positive reception of Persona 5 Royal in 2019 and the remake of Persona 3 Reload in 2024.
With Persona 6 on the horizon, 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year for fans. Additionally, Persona 4 Revival, a remake of the beloved 2008 title, is set to launch later this year. While it remains to be seen if Atlus has more surprises in store for the anniversary, this latest announcement certainly gives fans plenty to celebrate.
