Unlocking Scatty’s Chest in Gothic Remake: A Step-by-Step Guide

Lockpicking in Gothic Remake can be a real headache. So, when Fingers tasks you with picking Scatty’s chest to snag his ring during the A Ring for Fingers quest, I was immediately hesitant. However, successfully completing this task can earn you favor with the Shadows, allowing you to join the Old Camp, one of the three factions in the game.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you open Scatty’s chest without the frustration of breaking all your lockpicks like I did.

First, locate Scatty’s chest inside his hut, which is directly to your lower left when you’re talking to Fingers. The hut is easy to spot, marked by a long red banner next to the door, weapons on the wall, and a noticeboard outside. Scatty leaves for the arena in the morning, so that’s your perfect opportunity to make your move.

Once you enter, the chest is right in front of you. It’s a good idea to save your game before attempting to unlock it, so you can reload if you run out of lockpicks.

As shown in the video, here’s the sequence to move the plates to successfully open Scatty’s chest (without any lockpicking training), numbered from front to back:

Inside the chest, you’ll find Scatty’s Ring, which you need to hand over to Fingers to complete his side quest. This will reward you with 100 XP and his backing to join the Old Camp. If you’re not interested in the quest or joining this faction, you can always sell the ring instead.

Additionally, you’ll discover some miscellaneous items, including 16 ore nuggets and a pickaxe. Make sure to grab the pickaxe if you don’t have one already, as it will be useful for mining ore in the Old Mine.
