Locating Caine in Gothic Remake

Tracking down Caine in Gothic Remake took me longer than I’d like to admit. This elusive character is hiding somewhere in the Swamp Camp, and if you’ve ever navigated that chaotic maze of makeshift huts and walkways, you’ll know the challenge. Remember, Caine is Cor Kalom’s apprentice, so chatting with him will provide some hints.

However, you’ll still need to locate his hut based on a rather vague description. Let’s dive into The Lost Apprentice quest and outline the lengthy process of finding Caine.

As part of Gothic’s main storyline, your mission is to find Caine, a mole secretly relaying information back to your chosen camp. First, head over to Cor Kalom, the alchemist whose formula you snagged in The Cult’s Recipe quest, and ask him about Caine’s location. This will kick off The Lost Apprentice quest.

Cor Kalom doesn’t have a clue about Caine’s whereabouts, but you can gather clues in his shack near the Swampweed mashers. You can check out the video for a visual guide or follow these steps:

Inside the shack, you’ll discover a drawing of the locked Abandoned Mine near the Exchange Zone, which you encountered at the start of the game. Take this drawing and speak to Lester at the entrance before making your way to the mine in the northeast part of the map.

This next segment is quite lengthy, and there’s a boss waiting at the end, so ensure you’re well-prepared for battle with plenty of healing items. I suggest completing The Price of Magic if you haven’t acquired the fire bolt rune and gathering some swamp weed for mana regeneration.

Once outside the mine, you’ll need to persuade Orry to hand over the key. This task is much simpler if you’re aligned with the Old Camp, as you can mention that Raven sent you.

After that, prepare for a lengthy traversal section that involves a lot of underwater swimming. The tricky part comes when you reach a large pool with an underwater gate that needs to be opened. Dive down to grab the Detached Winch located in the center of the pool, then climb up to the platform above the gate to attach it and open the way.

Continue navigating through the mine until you reach the ruins, where you’ll find Caine’s corpse, guarded by an undead orc. Defeat this boss, claim its strange amulet, and then make your way back to Cor Kalom to wrap up The Lost Apprentice quest.
