Apple unveils watchOS 27 featuring Siri AI integration.
Apple has just unveiled watchOS 27, the latest iteration of its Apple Watch operating system, bringing exciting new features like Siri AI, a revamped “dynamic” app grid, and enhancements to health and fitness tracking. This update is set to roll out “this fall,” but it’s important to note that it will only be compatible with Apple Watch Series 10 models and newer, including the Ultra 2, Ultra 3, and SE 3.
One of the standout features of watchOS 27 is the introduction of Siri AI, the next evolution of Apple’s virtual assistant, powered by Apple Intelligence. This update includes a dedicated Siri app that consolidates all your conversations, allowing users to engage with the chatbot directly on their Apple Watch or continue discussions started on their iPhone. Siri will also be able to perform tasks within apps, such as playing music, sending emails, or setting new Activity ring goals, all without the need to search through menus.
Siri AI will be available once the beta launches later this year, but users will need to pair their watch with an Apple Intelligence-enabled device. However, it’s worth noting that Siri AI won’t be available for iOS and iPadOS devices in the EU just yet.
The new dynamic app grid will automatically highlight apps suggested by Siri, placing the Siri app at the center and surrounding it with your most frequently used and recently accessed apps, making navigation a breeze.
New features are also coming to Workout Buddy, the AI-driven personal trainer introduced in watchOS 26. These updates will enhance your insights into pace, distance, and workout duration, while also improving tracking for both outdoor runs and treadmill sessions. Additionally, menstrual health support has been expanded to alert users when logged cycle patterns indicate perimenopause. After initially launching in English, Workout Buddy will now also be available in Spanish.
Apple has implemented several general system improvements in watchOS 27, including more widget suggestions in your Smart Stack, quicker music playback, battery optimizations, a more efficient Find My app experience, and a refined Liquid Glass interface for better text readability. A new gesture has also been introduced, allowing users to select a widget in the Smart Stack by tapping their index finger and thumb together.
This update follows last year’s watchOS 26, which revamped the numbering system to align with the upcoming year, moving away from the previous watchOS 11 naming convention. The 2026 update, released in September, also introduced Apple’s Liquid Glass design language, along with features like wrist gestures for dismissing notifications, Apple Intelligence-powered fitness tools, and support for the Notes app.
These updates come on the heels of significant changes within Apple, including the departure of fitness chief Jay Blahnik, who was instrumental in developing the three-ring fitness tracking feature, amid allegations of misconduct. Health and Apple Watch marketing chief Stan Ng also retired after a long tenure with the company. John Ternus, who took charge of Apple Watch hardware in late 2022, is now at the helm as the new CEO.
