Apple Home Enhances Cameras with Smart Intelligence Features
Apple Intelligence is set to enhance the experience of cameras linked to Apple Home. During WWDC, it was revealed that with the rollout of iOS 27, the HomeKit Secure Video service will leverage Apple Intelligence to analyze video footage and create summaries of what the cameras capture. Users will also be able to search through footage using natural language, making it easier to locate specific clips, like when a package was delivered.
The Home app will utilize Apple Intelligence to connect relevant clips, providing a comprehensive view of activities in your home. It will also highlight “noteworthy clips” on the search page, allowing you to quickly access important videos.
This AI enhancement mirrors features that have been introduced by other home security systems, such as those from Amazon’s Ring and Google’s Nest, over the past year. These updates may be paving the way for Apple’s anticipated video doorbell and security camera.
Additionally, support for up to 4K video resolution is on the way for compatible HomeKit Secure Video cameras, promising clearer images for the AI to analyze. Previously, the service was limited to 1080p. An iCloud Plus plan will be necessary for accessing HomeKit Secure Video and its new AI capabilities. However, Apple has not confirmed whether Matter support for cameras will be integrated into its smart home platform.
Lastly, a minor yet useful update to the Home app allows users to consolidate multiple alerts from the same device into a single notification, which will refresh as more activity is detected.
