Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Launches on Switch 2 with a $80 Physical Edition
We’re currently experiencing what Nintendo refers to as “variable pricing.” Some titles are priced at $60, while others dip below that, and a select few, like Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, are priced higher. The physical edition of this strategy RPG will set you back $80, aligning it with the costs of Mario Kart World and the Switch 2 version of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which are also priced at $80.
Scheduled for release on September 17, 2026, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is now listed on the eShop, revealing its surprising price point. The digital version is priced at $70, which is the standard for new premium boxed games on Switch 2, but the physical edition comes with a $10 premium. This could be a tough sell for fans who prefer to display their Fire Emblem titles and SRPGs on their shelves.
Earlier this year, Nintendo announced a strategy to price digital versions of games $10 lower than their physical counterparts, aiming to provide savings for those who opt for downloads over traditional purchases. However, it’s hard to see $80 as the “natural” price for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, especially when it seems to factor in additional costs related to storage on SD Express cards amid the current AI-driven RAM challenges.
Since the announcement of the new digital discount, every other game Nintendo has revealed or released has been priced at $70 or less. For instance, Star Fox is $60 for the physical version and $50 digitally, while Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is $70 for physical and $60 for digital. The inconsistency in pricing makes it difficult to determine if the digital discount is merely a disguised price increase for physical copies, but with Fire Emblem, it certainly feels that way.
