Meta to Tailor Your Feeds Based on Your Online Activity

Meta is gearing up to enhance your experience by leveraging data shared by other businesses to tailor your feed and AI interactions. In a recent blog post, the company revealed that it already tracks your activities outside its platforms—like the games you play or purchases made on other sites—to deliver targeted ads. Now, it’s broadening the range of content it personalizes on Facebook and Instagram.

For instance, if you’ve recently purchased a tent online, you might find camping-related videos popping up in your Reels feed. The blog emphasizes, “We aren’t collecting any new data as part of this update. This is about using information that businesses already send to us to further improve your experience.”

According to a Meta spokesperson, the company previously relied solely on user activity within its apps—such as likes, views, and follows—to customize what you see. Last year, it also began using interactions with its AI assistant to refine ad personalization.

With this update, Meta is streamlining the settings that govern its access to off-platform data. If you want to stop Meta from using data shared by other businesses for personalizing ads, your feeds, or AI responses, simply disable the “Activity from other businesses” option.

The rollout of this update is happening globally, although it will initially exclude certain regions, including Europe, the UK, Brazil, Thailand, South Africa, Turkey, South Korea, Ecuador, Nigeria, and Kenya.
