Shift Up CEO Addresses Concerns Over Stellar Blade: Blood Rain’s Young-Looking Protagonist and Teases More Attractive Outfits Ahead
The first trailer for Stellar Blade: Blood Rain raised some eyebrows when it debuted during Summer Game Fest on June 5, and it wasn’t just due to the buzz around its potential use of GenAI. The main topic of discussion seems to be the youthful look of the new protagonist, Evie. The CEO of developer Shift Up recently addressed these concerns in an interview, emphasizing that Evie’s “physical looks” are secondary to her being a “lovable character.”
Hyung-tae Kim, who directed the original Stellar Blade in 2024, spoke about Stellar Blade: Blood Rain and the reactions to Evie’s appearance. He acknowledged the feedback but suggested that players would change their minds once they experience the game.
“Yes. She is younger. She’s smaller in size. She’s shorter than Eve,” Kim stated, “but she has a stronger personality and engages in much tougher battles. She’s actually part of a special squad that chases after a group of terrorists causing chaos in the city.”
“If you actually play the game, you will not think that,” he added. “I definitely liked how Eve looked in the previous Stellar Blade. But this time, Evie’s personality, her dialogue, and her combat style will all come together to show that she’s a very lovable character.”
After reading Kim’s comments multiple times, they come off as somewhat evasive. His response doesn’t fully address Evie’s appearance or the sexualized poses seen in the trailer, aside from noting that she is “younger” and “smaller in size.”
Kim also mentioned new outfits for Evie in Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, saying, “It will be even more appealing… That’s all we can say.” One can only hope that “more appealing” doesn’t imply what it might suggest in this context. The jiggle physics showcased in the reveal trailer were already unsettling enough.
