Boox’s latest e-reader aims to be the ultimate alternative to Kindle, Kobo, and digital notebooks.

Boox has unveiled an upgraded version of its compact e-reader, the Go 6 (Gen II), which now includes note-taking capabilities. This new model retains the 6-inch, 300PPI E Ink display of its predecessor but boosts RAM from 2GB to 3GB. It also supports the InkSense Plus stylus, allowing users to sketch, annotate documents, or jot down handwritten notes.

The Boox Go 6 (Gen II) is available for preorder at $199.99, with shipping expected to begin on June 17th. The InkSense Plus stylus, priced at $45.99, is sold separately, but you can bundle it with the e-reader for a total of $232.99. While this price point is higher than entry-level options like the Amazon Kindle and Kobo Clara BW, which also feature 6-inch screens, the Go 6 offers a unique blend of functionality. It runs on Android 11 and supports the Google Play Store, enabling the installation of both Amazon and Kobo mobile apps for access to their ebook stores.

The writing experience on this new e-reader may not be as refined as that of higher-end devices like the $449 Remarkable Paper Pro Move, but the Android platform provides a wide range of note-taking apps and syncing options across different platforms.

In addition to its note-taking features, the Boox Go 6 (Gen II) includes standard offerings found in Kindle and Kobo devices, such as adjustable screen lighting, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a 1,500mAh battery that can last for weeks—unless you decide to use it for gaming. Unlike its competitors, Boox also provides 32GB of built-in storage, which can be significantly expanded with a microSD card.
