Elder Scrolls 6 Progressing Smoothly, But No Update on Re-Reveal Yet

Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls 6 is one of the most eagerly awaited titles in development, yet it was absent from Xbox’s recent summer showcase. Arkane’s Blade also didn’t make an appearance. Recent updates suggest that at least one of these games might unveil a new trailer sometime in 2026.

“I can tell you, having visited Bethesda and sat with Todd and seen Elder Scrolls playing, it looks amazing, and it’s coming along well,” Xbox’s chief content officer recently shared. “We’ll make sure to announce it and really reveal it at the right time.”

The Elder Scrolls 6 was first announced back at E3 2018, but fans have yet to see a new teaser trailer since then. While there have been hints about what to expect from this major RPG sequel, a clear timeline for its release remains elusive.

In 2023, the former head of Xbox indicated that The Elder Scrolls 6 might be at least five years away, suggesting a tentative launch in 2028. By that time, both the PlayStation 6 and Microsoft’s Project Helix are expected to be on the market. At this pace, it seems the game could miss an entire console generation.

However, TES 6 wasn’t the only title missing from the showcase. Marvel’s Blade, which was officially revealed at the 2023 Game Awards, reportedly didn’t enter full production until 2024, meaning it could also be years before it sees the light of day.

“It’s a big show, I can’t fit everything in,” the Xbox executive explained when asked about the absence of a new trailer for Blade. “There’s a lot happening this year, and any games that didn’t make it could appear at future events, like Gamescom or the 2026 Game Awards.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard updates from the Xbox team about ongoing projects. “I’ve played builds,” the executive mentioned back in 2023 regarding Perfect Dark. “I looked at it. I’m very excited for people to see what we’re doing.” Two years later, that project was canceled.

When discussing Redfall’s rocky launch and the future of Arkane Austin, he stated, “That is the plan right now. They are hard at work on updates and continued content for Redfall.” The studio was shut down the following spring.

“I would say one of the more challenging balancing acts of someone in a job like mine is balancing the desire to show the world all the cool stuff you’re working on and getting them excited early, while also knowing we want to wait for the right moment,” he noted. “When you decide to show it, you want it to be the best you’ve got, and you’re also making a promise that it’s coming soon.”

Meanwhile, Microsoft is bracing for another round of mass layoffs later this month, leaving us to wonder what will remain after the dust settles.
