Geralt’s actor had a hunch about upcoming Witcher 3 DLC before its announcement.

Doug Cockle, the voice behind Geralt in The Witcher series, is set to reprise his iconic role in the newly revealed DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, titled Songs of the Past. However, don’t expect him to spill any secrets about it, as he’s in the same boat as fans when it comes to details.

In a recent video chat, Cockle mentioned he had a hunch that something new was brewing at CD Projekt Red. “There was a feeling in the air that CDPR may have been cooking something up, but I had no idea what. For all I knew, it could have been another Thronebreaker-type of thing,” he said, referencing the 2018 Gwent-focused spin-off. He’s not alone in his anticipation; rumors about the expansion had been circulating for a while, making its announcement feel more like a formality than a shock.

“I was absolutely thrilled when they announced that there is going to be a Witcher 3 expansion and that it’s going to serve as kind of a bridge between The Witcher 3 and its DLCs and The Witcher 4,” Cockle shared. His excitement mirrors that of CDPR co-CEO Michał Nowakowski, who described Songs of the Past as “in a way, a prologue” to The Witcher 4.

If you’re hoping for insider info from Cockle about Songs of the Past—like its setting or timeline—don’t get your hopes up. “I know as much as you do based on the press releases that CDPR has put out,” he stated. “I don’t know anything more than that. I’m excited to find out.”

When asked if he had recorded any lines for Songs of the Past yet, he playfully replied, “I haven’t, but I wouldn’t tell you if I had.” The world of acting is filled with secrecy, embargoes, and non-disclosure agreements.

Cockle hasn’t recorded anything for the upcoming remake of The Witcher either. In fact, he’s uncertain if he’ll be voicing Geralt in Fool’s Theory’s remake of the original 2007 game that kicked off the franchise.

“I don’t know. I hope so,” he said. “Again, it’s one of those things where I know what you know. […] I hope that they do bring me in to re-voice Geralt for the new one.”

That remake currently lacks a release date and is likely a couple of years away. CD Projekt Red has previously indicated that the remake won’t launch until after The Witcher 4, which is expected no earlier than 2027. But should the opportunity arise for Cockle to return for the remake, he’ll be ready to jump back in.

“I love Geralt and I would love to play him as long as I am able to and am welcome,” Cockle expressed. “Long may I be playing Geralt.”

In related news, CD Projekt Red recently announced that The Witcher 3 has sold 65 million copies, making it the 8th best-selling game of all time.
