Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Is Official — Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026
After years of fan campaigns, persistent rumours, and countless unofficial Unity remakes built by devoted players, it’s finally happening. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is getting a full remake for Nintendo Switch 2, confirmed during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct — and it’s arriving later this year.
What the Trailer Showed — and What Nintendo Confirmed
Nintendo closed its 50-minute Direct with the announcement, dropping the first teaser for the remake and confirming a 2026 release window. The trailer itself was deliberately minimal — a narrator sets the scene of the Kokiri forest, a young Link stirs in his sleep, a Triforce symbol glows on his hand, and a modernised logo appears on screen. It was short, but it was more than enough to send the internet into an absolute frenzy.
Nintendo’s official website subsequently confirmed that this is a full-blown remake and not just a port or remaster, with a description promising stunning visuals, updated designs, and the timeless gameplay the original is known for.
Why This Is Such a Big Deal
The original Ocarina of Time launched in 1998 on the Nintendo 64 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest games ever made, consistently appearing at or near the top of all-time best games lists. This will be the first time the game is available on a current-generation platform in any meaningful way — the best version available previously was the 3DS release, which added quality-of-life improvements and reworked the Water Temple.
Rumours of an Ocarina of Time remake had been building for much of 2026 before the Direct made it official. More details are expected later this year ahead of what is shaping up to be a landmark release for the Zelda franchise’s 40th anniversary.
