Assassin’s Creed Shadows Receives Free DLC Before Black Flag Remake Launch

Ubisoft is wrapping up post-launch support for Assassin’s Creed Shadows with what it calls the game’s final significant update, set to launch on June 16 across all platforms except for Nintendo Switch 2, which will receive it later. This update introduces a new story chapter, endgame challenges, and extra content for the Animus Hub, while also paving the way for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

The highlight of Title Update 1.1.11 is Black Tides, a new narrative arc that marks the conclusion of the journeys of protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. This chapter offers around two hours of story content and directly connects to the tale of Edward Kenway, the lead character in Black Flag Resynced, effectively linking the two titles.

Additionally, the update brings Domains, a fresh endgame activity designed for replayability. This feature includes five simulations with dynamic gameplay modifiers aimed at challenging players’ combat skills and character builds. Completing these challenges will reward players with new gear, exclusive items, and hidden secrets.

Players won’t need the Claws of Awaji expansion to access Black Tides, but they must finish the main campaign and the previously released story updates, A Critical Encounter and A Puzzlement.

Another new feature is Horizon, a Modern-Day Rift. Details on this content are sparse, but it hints at emerging threats, with the Eagle promising more information about the Guide.

Alongside the update, the Animus Hub is being expanded with two new projects, Undertow and Riptides. Both projects offer cosmetic rewards inspired by Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, allowing players to unlock themed outfits for Naoe and Yasuke. The crossover extends further; after the launch of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced on July 9, players will be able to unlock outfits inspired by Assassin’s Creed Shadows for Edward Kenway.

While Ubisoft has stated that this is the final major update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the developer is cleverly positioning the game’s concluding chapter as a bridge to the next installment in the beloved series.
