New Trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day Teases Mystery Villain

It’s been a while since we first caught a glimpse of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the eagerly awaited sequel to 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. A fresh trailer has just dropped, giving us more insight into Tom Holland’s next portrayal of Peter Parker, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

The latest trailer, released Wednesday, dives into Peter Parker’s personal challenges as he navigates new changes to his superpowers, including organic web-shooters and striking all-black eyes. He seeks assistance from Bruce Banner, who now sports a device to keep the Hulk in check. However, it looks like a showdown is on the horizon, as Hulk appears to be under the control of the film’s rumored antagonist, played by Sadie Sink, who is set to be a significant new character in the MCU. As Peter grapples with these unwelcome changes, threats to his beloved MJ, and a host of new villains, we hear what seems to be fresh dialogue from Aunt May, hinting at Marisa Tomei’s return, likely in a voiceover capacity.

The second trailer for this superhero flick gives us a quick look at a “totally out of control” Spider-Man facing off against Scorpion, along with glimpses of Ned Leeds desperately trying to uncover the wall-crawler’s secret identity. We also see an intense battle against The Hand ninja clan, showcasing some impressive new web-slinging action.

The first trailer introduced us to a troubled and stressed-out Peter Parker, who, despite being adored by New Yorkers, is leading a lonely, low-key life. After the events of No Way Home, his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) and his love, MJ (Zendaya), feel like strangers to him, and Peter seems to be facing both mental and physical challenges. A new potential threat looms in Sadie Sink’s still-unknown character, while Spider-Man must contend with villains like Scorpion, Tarantula, Boomerang, The Hand, and others yet to be revealed.

While Peter may be down, Spider-Man fans are thrilled to see a return to the elements that made the character’s early Marvel comics so captivating. Peter’s struggles as an everyday person are just as engaging as his high-flying escapades, which Brand New Day promises to explore.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Short Term 12), the film is based on a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who wrote the previous three Spider-Man films. Alongside Holland, Zendaya, Batalon, and Sink, newcomers Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. MCU veterans Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal will reprise their roles as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Frank Castle/The Punisher, respectively.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31.

The first Spider-Man 4 trailer confirms a few villains and hints at more.
