Re:Zero Shatters Records with Latest Episode Before Season 4 Part 2 Reveal
While isekai anime are plentiful, few have made as lasting an impact as Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World. The latest episode has just achieved a remarkable milestone, earning a perfect 10/10 rating on IMDB after 23,000 reviews, making it one of the highest-rated episodes ever. This marks the first time in nine years that an episode has reached this level, and it’s the first isekai and light-novel adaptation to do so.
The record-setting 11th episode served as the finale for the current arc, wrapping up the first part of the fourth season. Following its release, it was announced that the final eight episodes of the season, titled “The Recapture Arc,” will premiere on August 12. A teaser image was shared alongside this announcement.
Re:Zero’s fourth season is currently its highest-rated on IMDB, boasting an impressive average of 9.4, significantly higher than the series’ overall score of 8.2. Fans on other platforms have echoed this enthusiasm, with season 4 holding a 9.14 rating on MyAnimeList, ranking it as the second-highest season of all time on the site, just behind the first season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Despite MyAnimeList’s tendency to favor newer releases—four of the top five rated shows have come out in the last three years—Re:Zero stands out as the only isekai series in the top 100, clearly distinguishing itself from the competition.
For those who may not be familiar with Re:Zero, the narrative centers on Subaru Natsuki, a former NEET who finds himself reborn in a fantasy realm. This familiar premise takes a twist when Subaru discovers he has the ability to rewind time upon dying, a power that brings with it a heavy burden of sacrifice and suffering. The light novels originated on the self-publishing platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō, known for spawning many anime with lengthy titles, and have amassed an impressive 44 volumes to date. The anime is currently about halfway through adapting these volumes.
Fans are optimistic that the show will continue its relatively quick release schedule between seasons 3 and 4, especially compared to the lengthy four-year gap between the first and second seasons. Given the series’ popularity, it’s likely that news about a fifth season will emerge once the current run concludes later this year.
After attempting to shift away from its established formula, Re:Zero returns to its roots in season 4.
