IEM Makes a Comeback in Beijing as ESL FACEIT Group Expands in China

Intel Extreme Masters is set to make its return to Beijing this fall, marking the first time since 2019 that this iconic Counter-Strike tournament brand will grace the Chinese capital.

IEM Beijing 2026 is slated for November 2-8 at the Bloomage Biotech·Biohyalux ECM Arena in Wukesong, Haidian District. The competition will showcase 16 teams battling it out in Counter-Strike 2 for a prize pool of $1.25 million, along with an ESL Pro Tour Masters trophy and valuable points in the ESL Grand Slam VII race. This event is being organized in collaboration with the Beijing Esports Industry Development Association as part of the “Beijing Esports” initiative.

This tournament is being touted as the largest standalone IEM event ever held in Asia, with expectations of over 45,000 fans attending across the six days of competition. Notably, IEM Beijing will also feature a 360-degree stage design, making it the first IEM event to do so since the IEM Rio Major 2022.

For the organizing group, returning to Beijing signals both a commitment to the market and an expansion of their live-event ambitions in China. IEM Beijing 2026 is officially recognized as an EPT Masters event, featuring 16 teams and a total prize pool of $1.25 million. The broader ESL Pro Tour encompasses a global Counter-Strike circuit with seven live events and over $11 million in total annual winnings.

Following the model tested at IEM Chengdu 2025, where the group stage was opened to fans, IEM Beijing will continue this trend by allowing fans to attend all six tournament days. This includes three days of group-stage matches, playoffs, partner activations, signing sessions with all participating teams, and additional on-site programming.

“Over the past years, we’ve experienced the incredible passion and energy of Chinese fans firsthand,” said Marc Winther, director of esports for Counter-Strike 2. “With IEM Beijing 2026, we’re excited to elevate the experience through a 360-degree stage design and a variety of fan activations, while further deepening our commitment to the region. Together with the Beijing Esports Industry Development Association, we look forward to welcoming IEM’s largest live audience in Asia to date and creating new opportunities for fans and partners.”

The partnership with Beijing aligns with local government initiatives, as the municipal government has promoted the “Esports Beijing” initiative since 2020, integrating esports into the city’s cultural and international exchange agenda. However, the announcement does not clarify whether the Beijing Esports Industry Development Association is providing funding, venue support, or other commercial considerations.

Details regarding ticketing for IEM Beijing 2026 have yet to be revealed, and there has been no announcement about participating teams, local media partners, sponsor activations, or the financial terms of the collaboration with the Beijing Esports Industry Development Association.
