Hugh Jackman’s captivating murder mystery film debuts on Prime Video this week.
Prime Video is set to debut one of Amazon MGM Studios’ standout films of 2026 this week, and it’s not the anticipated Project Hail Mary. Instead, get ready for some woolly sleuthing with The Sheep Detectives, which will start streaming on Wednesday, June 24.
Hugh Jackman made the announcement in a playful video filled with sheep sounds. He stars as George, a shepherd who turns up dead, prompting a few of his sheep to embark on a mission to assist the town’s lone police officer in solving the mystery of George’s untimely demise. Expect a cast of shady suspects, plenty of laughs, and even a dramatic will-reading scene. If you’ve ever wished for a sheep-centric twist on Knives Out, then The Sheep Detectives is right up your alley.
The human cast features Nicholas Galitzine, Nicholas Braun from Succession, and Molly Gordon from The Bear. Meanwhile, the voice cast includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Chris O’Dowd, Bryan Cranston, and even Patrick Stewart, all lending their talents to the flock.
While The Sheep Detectives is a cozy murder mystery at heart, it also delves into themes of grief, the struggle of remembrance, and the feeling of being an outsider. So, keep some tissues handy when you hit play.
Both critics and audiences have embraced The Sheep Detectives, with it currently holding a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 96% on the audience Popcornmeter. If you haven’t seen it yet, mark your calendar for June 24.
