Zendaya Faced a Tough Boss Battle in Spider-Man 2 and Turned to Tom Holland for Support
The stars of Spider-Man: Brand New Day are currently on a promotional tour for the upcoming Marvel film. In a recent chat, Zendaya, who plays MJ, shared that she’s been diving into Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2, with a little assistance from her husband, Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man.
During an interview, when asked if the Spider-Man films draw inspiration from the acclaimed Spider-Man games, Zendaya and Holland reminisced about their experience with the PS5 sequel, highlighting a particularly challenging boss battle.
“I’m not the best at video games,” Zendaya admitted. “So I stick to story mode, and I get really frustrated because I want to handle it myself, and [Holland] tries to come in and say, ‘Let me help you.’ And I’m like, no, I need to do this on my own!”
Holland recalled a moment when Zendaya’s determination to conquer Spider-Man 2 solo led to a lot of stress. This happened during a boss fight against Mary Jane later in the game.
“She turns into like a…monster. And she was stressing me out,” Zendaya explained.
“But Z had done it all herself,” Holland added, “And she wouldn’t let me take the controller because she was like, ‘I’ve come this far alone…I can’t let you do this.’”
“You cannot help me,” Zendaya told Holland at that moment. “But ultimately, I think you needed to help me because that was a really hard level.”
To Zendaya’s credit, that boss fight is no joke. I know I faced my own share of defeats trying to take down the speedy and powerful symbiote version of MJ. My own partner struggled with that battle too, so no need to feel bad, Zendaya. Honestly, if I were married to Spider-Man, I’d have him tackle all the tough bosses for me while I enjoyed the ride.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31.
