God of War Laufey Is Official — Faye Steps Into the Spotlight in a Brand New PS5 Adventure

For the first time in the franchise’s history, Kratos is not the one holding the weapon. God of War Laufey was officially unveiled during PlayStation’s June 2026 State of Play, and the reveal dropped jaws across the gaming world. Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that the next mainline God of War game puts Faye — Kratos’s warrior wife — at the centre of her own fully fledged adventure, with a 20-minute gameplay showcase that left virtually nothing to the imagination.

The Story, Setting and New Characters

The game picks up after Faye’s death at the very beginning of God of War 2018. Rather than staying dead, Faye awakens in the Everywhen — the mythological afterlife of the gods — where ruthless deities from across multiple mythologies are battling for dominance. Her mission is both personal and urgent: plans she put in place to protect Kratos and Atreus are now at risk, and she must fight her way through the afterlife to save the people she loves.

Deborah Ann Woll takes on the role of Faye, with two brand-new companions joining her journey. Phranque, voiced by Jack Quaid, is a sentient cosmic cube with an earnest, fiercely loyal personality — already a fan favourite from the reveal trailer. Rue, voiced by Perlina Lau, is an enchanted ribbon bound to a powerful sword and serves as its guardian, determined to keep it from falling into the wrong hands.

How Combat Has Changed — and What the Release Window Looks Like

Santa Monica Studio has described the combat as building on the modern God of War foundation while reintroducing some of the faster, more aggressive energy of the original Greek-era games. Faye has significantly more mobility than Kratos — her combat flows between ground and aerial exchanges, with soul-based powers added on top of her primary sword. She can rip souls from enemies mid-combat and use them as projectiles, adding a layer of variety that the franchise hasn’t seen before.

No release date has been announced, but insider reports suggest Santa Monica Studio’s original internal target was the first half of 2027, though those plans are subject to change. God of War Laufey is confirmed exclusively for PS5 for now, with no PC version yet announced.
