Toy Story Producer Expresses Strong Opposition to Live-Action Disney Remake: “Please God, No!”

Toy Story 5 is receiving positive reviews from critics and raking in impressive box office numbers. As part of a larger franchise under Disney, which has been actively transforming animated classics into live-action adaptations, the question arose about the potential for a live-action Toy Story. The response from the creators was a heartfelt plea for it not to happen, accompanied by a firm “No!”

In a recent interview, Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton and producer Lindsey Collins discussed the film, the franchise’s future, and more. Toward the end of the conversation, they were asked about the possibility of a live-action Toy Story in the future. Their reactions were as negative as one could get without crossing the line during a press event aimed at families and children.

“I hope not, please God, no,” Collins exclaimed, closing her eyes and shaking her head in dismay. “Don’t say that loudly. You know Disney is going to be like… [makes a strange smile]. No. The answer is a hard no.”

“That’s like a hat on top of a hat,” Stanton chimed in.

So, it seems there are some pretty clear signals from the duo regarding a live-action Toy Story. It’s refreshing to see the creative minds behind Toy Story 5, two influential figures at Pixar, openly oppose the idea of a live-action remake of this beloved CG-animated series.

Disney’s trend of live-action adaptations has been a mixed bag, featuring standout successes like Lilo & Stitch and The Lion King, mediocre efforts like Dumbo and Aladdin, and some outright flops, such as Snow White. While more adaptations are on the horizon, including a live-action Moana that looks questionable at best, I remain hopeful that Pixar can protect its remarkable collection of animated films, including Cars, from being turned into live-action versions.
