Discover Adorable New Creatures in Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Everyday Wonders Expansion
The Pokémon Company has unveiled the latest expansion for the mobile game Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket: Everyday Wonders. This new set focuses on adorably cute Pokémon, featuring cozy full-art illustrations of fan favorites. Players can expect its release next week on June 29 at 9 p.m. EDT.
The trailer for Pokémon TCG Pocket: Everyday Wonders showcases some of the exciting new cards, including a charming Pikachu and a cuddly Piplup. Notably, there’s a non-ex Sylveon that could make waves in competitive play, thanks to its ability that heals 30 HP per turn from any of your Pokémon, provided it has a Tool attached.
Another highlight is Dedenne ex, which boasts an attack dealing 40 damage for each Tool attached to your Pokémon, potentially hitting a maximum of 160 damage for just 2 energy. However, assembling a full field of Pokémon equipped with Tools might prove challenging.
We also got a glimpse of the Puppy-Loving Girl trainer card, allowing players to look at the top four cards of their deck and add any Pokémon with the Puppy Pile attack to their hand. The revealed cards—Growlithe, Yamper, Fidough, and Rockruff—indicate that Puppy Pile deals 20 damage for each other card with Puppy Pile in hand and in play. While this move may not shine in competitive settings, these lovable Pokémon certainly deserve some attention (especially Fidough).
A new Tool called Small Balloon reduces a basic Pokémon’s retreat cost by one, which could be quite beneficial given the number of powerful basic Pokémon in the game. There’s also a new Snorlax with an ability that prevents opponents from using Stadium cards. While it may not be impactful enough for competitive play, it’s an interesting addition nonetheless.
Hisuian Zoroark ex stands out with its Spiteful Illusion attack, which requires three normal energy and deals 80 damage plus 20 for each Pokémon in your discard pile. If you manage to knock out stage 2 Pokémon, you could potentially deal a staggering 200 damage with this attack, especially when paired with a meta staple like Magnezone.
Lastly, Mega Diancle ex, a basic Pokémon with 170 HP, features the Brilliant Storm move, which does 40 damage plus 20 for every psychic energy attached to all of your Pokémon. This card has great synergy with Mega Gardevoir ex and regular Gardevoir, both of which can generate a significant amount of psychic energy. While this expansion has plenty to offer, many more cards will be included in the final set.
Since its release on October 30, 2024, Pokémon TCG Pocket has been a financial success, surpassing 100 million downloads and generating over $500 million in revenue. Despite this success, quality-of-life updates have been slow, even as DeNA, the studio behind the game, consistently rolls out new expansions. Fortunately, a May update improved the previously sluggish user interface.
It appears that DeNA is committed to ongoing support for the game, with a Mega Rayquaza-themed expansion set to launch in July, marking the game’s 20th set.
Players can look forward to collecting 30 different Pikachu, each illustrated by a unique artist.
