Rockstar Unveils Exciting Updates on GTA 6 – Here’s What We Discovered
Rockstar has dropped a treasure trove of details about Grand Theft Auto 6, and the big news is finally here: we know the price! Alongside the standard edition, there’s an Ultimate Edition, pre-order bonuses, and a slew of new screenshots that showcase the game’s stylish vibe.
To keep you in the loop with all the latest GTA 6 updates ahead of its November launch, let’s dive into the most pressing question: What’s the cost of Grand Theft Auto 6?
After a whirlwind of speculation, Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 will retail for $79.99 for the standard edition. This places it alongside Nintendo’s Mario Kart World as one of the few $80 titles on the market. While a price increase from the typical $70 for AAA games has been anticipated, it hasn’t been officially implemented until now. Mario Kart World’s price is often bundled with the Nintendo Switch 2, effectively lowering the cost for many players. Microsoft attempted to set a precedent with The Outer Worlds 2 but quickly reversed course after fan backlash.
As the cost of gaming continues to rise, GTA 6 might be the only title that can command a $79.99 price tag without pushback. It’ll be interesting to see if other publishers like Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, EA, and Ubisoft follow suit with their flagship releases.
The Ultimate Edition of GTA 6 will be priced at $99.99, which some had speculated would be the cost of the base game. This edition promises “an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action around every corner,” according to Rockstar. Players will unlock these bonus items throughout the game rather than having them all available from the start.
Anyone who pre-orders GTA 6 or purchases it before November 20 will receive the Vintage Vice City pack, featuring retro cosmetics for protagonists Lucia and Jason. This includes the ’55 Vapie Stainier car, various clothing and hairstyle options, and a tropical weapon pattern. Additionally, players will get a month of GTA Plus, Rockstar’s subscription service for in-game benefits in Grand Theft Auto Online.
Pre-orders will kick off on Thursday, June 25. Since the Vintage Vice City pack will still be available at launch on November 19, there’s little incentive to pre-order unless you want to preload the game starting November 12 or snag that free month of GTA Plus. You can take your time to read reviews and gauge performance before diving in while still securing your Vintage Vice City goodies.
For those who prefer physical copies, there’s a bit of a letdown: GTA 6 will not be available on a disc. Instead, the physical edition will come with a download code in a box. However, the physical version will hit store shelves a week early, allowing players to preload starting November 12.
The reason behind the absence of a disc release isn’t clear, but it’s possible the game’s size is too large for a standard disc. PlayStation 5 discs can hold up to 100 GB, while Xbox Series X can manage only half that. As games grow in size, 100 GB may no longer suffice; titles like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Baldur’s Gate 3 have shipped on multiple discs. It’s conceivable that GTA 6 could require over 200 GB of data, leading Rockstar to opt for a digital release.
We’ll learn more about GTA 6’s file size once preloading begins.
According to official descriptions on PlayStation and Xbox, GTA 6 will launch as a single-player experience. This raises questions about the future of Grand Theft Auto Online, which has been thriving since its release alongside GTA 5 in 2013 and was made available as a standalone download in 2021.
Will there be a new GTA Online with GTA 6? It’s still uncertain. GTA Online may continue with updates featuring GTA 6-themed content, or Rockstar could introduce an entirely new online experience set in the world of GTA 6. For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
One thing is for sure: GTA 6 looks incredible. While we’re still waiting on a new trailer, the latest screenshots give us a glimpse of how Lucia and Jason can be customized with various outfits and hairstyles, along with a variety of cars and motorcycles. Set in a fictional version of Florida, we even see the characters enjoying some downtime on a boat.
Don’t get too excited about a PC release just yet. Historically, Rockstar launches GTA titles on consoles first, with PC ports arriving later. (Remember, Grand Theft Auto 5 didn’t hit PC until a year and a half after its console debut.) Currently, GTA 6 is only confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
It certainly seems like the November 19, 2026 release date is set in stone! While video games are often subject to delays, all signs indicate that Rockstar is on track to launch GTA 6 on that date. The game has already faced two delays, moving from a fall 2025 window to May 26, 2026, and then to its current date, which has been a focal point for the industry.
Unless something unexpected occurs, in just under five months, you’ll be ready to wreak havoc and commit crimes across not-Miami in Grand Theft Auto 6.
