GTA 6 Promises Enhanced Experience on PS5, but PS5 Pro Features Remain Unspecified
Sony and Rockstar Games have announced that “Grand Theft Auto 6” is optimized to deliver the best experience on PS5, highlighting several exclusive features of the PlayStation 5 hardware that won’t be available on the Xbox Series X.
In a recent blog post co-authored by Rockstar and a Sony marketing executive, it was revealed that GTA 6 will utilize the DualSense controller’s integrated speaker, haptic feedback, and adaptive triggers that adjust resistance based on gameplay. The game will also leverage the PS5’s Tempest 3D audio and its ultra-fast SSD for near-instant load times.
This emphasis on PS5 features isn’t just coincidental; it reflects a marketing partnership between Sony and Rockstar aimed at encouraging players still on the PlayStation 4—where they can still access Grand Theft Auto Online, Grand Theft Auto 5, Fortnite, and Minecraft—to make the leap to PS5. Sony is keen to further distinguish the PS5 from the Xbox Series X during this transition.
“For new players looking to jump in, it’s a great chance to see why PS5 is the best place to play,” the marketing executive stated. “Players can find a PS5 or PS5 Pro at direct.playstation.com (where available) and at local retailers.”
Interestingly, the blog post does not elaborate on the PS5 Pro or any enhancements it might offer for GTA 6. This omission is curious, as the game presents a prime opportunity to entice both PS4 users to upgrade to PS5 and current PS5 owners to consider the PS5 Pro. With no equivalent upgrade option on Xbox, the PS5 Pro is positioned to provide the most high-fidelity experience for GTA 6 until a PC version is released.
The PlayStation Store page for GTA 6 does indicate that the game will be “PS5 Pro Enhanced,” suggesting an official patch will unlock its performance potential on the Pro. However, details on what these enhancements entail—such as higher frame rates or resolutions—remain undisclosed.
Sony seems to be missing a chance to promote the PS5 Pro effectively. This could be a strategic choice to avoid complicating its message encouraging upgrades to PS5, or it might be that Rockstar is still fine-tuning the game across all platforms and hasn’t finalized its performance metrics yet.
With no PC version available and Xbox trailing in console sales this generation, Sony is treating GTA 6 as if it were a PS5 exclusive. We received our first hint of this today, but whether this strategy will also aim to boost interest in the PS5 Pro remains uncertain.
Still no new trailer, though.
