Lara Croft Teams Up with GI Joe for Her 30th Anniversary Celebration
Lara Croft has battled dinosaurs, taken down gods, and even put her butler through some serious trials, and now she’s gearing up for her next big crossover… with G.I. Joe? That’s right! To mark the 30th anniversary of this legendary character, the tomb raider is getting her very own action figure from Hasbro.
This exciting collaboration between Tomb Raider and G.I. Joe was first teased back in May, but the details were unveiled during a special stream co-hosted by an outlet and Dan Larson from the pop culture channel Secret Galaxy. Fans got their first glimpse of the Lara Croft figure, which is part of the six-inch line and comes packed with a variety of accessories. The figure showcases Croft’s iconic dual-wield pistols, her go-to weapons from earlier games, along with a bow and arrow and ice picks, which became her trademarks in the Survivor Trilogy.
More information about the Tomb Raider x G.I. Joe figure, including pricing and release date, will be revealed during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con at a Hasbro press breakfast on Thursday, July 23.
Notably, this figure features the new unified look for Lara Croft, a design that developer Crystal Dynamics and IP-holder Embracer Group have been rolling out over the past few years. This appearance, which first made waves in Call of Duty, has become the standard for Croft in recent media. While “unified” might suggest a desire for consistency, it actually refers to a fresh approach to the two Tomb Raider timelines. The 2013 Tomb Raider and its sequels, Rise and Shadow, are known as the Survivor Trilogy and represent a reboot of the character, distinct from her original timeline that began in 1996. Moving forward, Crystal Dynamics and Embracer aim to merge these timelines into a single cohesive narrative, with the Survivor Trilogy acting as a prelude to the Lara Croft we meet in the 1996 classic.
While the G.I. Joe announcement is just one of several collaborations celebrating Tomb Raider’s 30th anniversary, the main event is still a few years away. The highly anticipated Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of the original game, has been pushed back from 2026 to next year (which may turn out to be a blessing). This will be the first Tomb Raider title from Crystal Dynamics since 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, serving as a reintroduction to Lara Croft and solidifying the connection between the Survivor Trilogy and the original games, completing the timeline unification. Following that, fans can look forward to a brand-new Tomb Raider game, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, set to release later in 2027, which will take place after 2008’s Tomb Raider: Underworld, the most recent title in the new unified timeline.
It’s a classic Lara look!
