Season 2 of Creature Commandos Welcomes New Team Members

James Gunn’s HBO Max animated series Creature Commandos is gearing up for its second season, introducing some fresh faces to the team. The season 1 finale hinted at several potential recruits held at Belle Reve Correctional Center, and during a panel at the Annecy Festival, DC Animation unveiled which characters made the cut.

Leading the new squad will be The Bride, joined by Eric Frankenstein, Doctor Phosphorus, and Weasel. G.I. Robot is making a return with a beefed-up new design, as teased at the end of the first season.

“He’s got a really strong and emotional character arc this season,” producer Rick Morales shared. “[Gunn] cares a lot and has really great insights. We sent him a dozen looks and keyed in on these rounder, bigger shapes.”

Joining the crew is the version of King Shark from Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, who will have his backstory explored. Another new addition is Khalis, the mummy seen knitting in the finale. He’s a gentle old man with bandages that possess healing abilities and may even have the power of resurrection. Weasel has taken a liking to chewing on his bones.

The final new member is Nosferata, a young woman transformed into a vampire by a mad scientist’s experiments. Her design has evolved since the season 1 finale, with the creators experimenting with styles ranging from goth to sci-fi and rave girl, ultimately landing on a look reminiscent of Charli XCX. Morales notes that her dynamic with The Bride is highly contentious, contrasting sharply with her previous interactions with Nina.

While Warner Bros. has yet to announce a release date for season 2 of Creature Commandos, fans can anticipate its arrival sometime next year.
