Samsung’s latest budget smartphone sees a $50 price hike despite reduced features.

The Galaxy A27 has been unveiled, priced at $349.99, which is $50 more than its predecessor, the A26. This price increase makes sense given the current economic landscape, but it becomes a tougher sell considering some key specifications have been downgraded.

When stacked against last year’s model, the A27 features a lower resolution 12-megapixel selfie camera and a 5-megapixel ultrawide camera, along with reduced IP64 waterproofing. It’s also slightly thicker at 7.8mm. However, several specs remain unchanged, including 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a 5,000mAh battery, a 6.7-inch 120Hz display, and a 50-megapixel rear camera. The one notable upgrade is the switch from the Exynos 1380 to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, which is a positive change.

It’s worth noting that Samsung isn’t solely responsible for these adjustments. The entire industry is facing rising prices, and budget phones are particularly vulnerable—some companies have even halted plans for new budget-friendly models. Even Apple has raised prices recently, although its iPhones remain unaffected for now.

The Galaxy A27 will be available in the US starting July 14th, exclusively in black. International markets will also see blue and pink variants, with an earlier release on July 3rd.
