Xbox Set for Another Price Increase Following Recent Game Pass Discount

If you’re eyeing an Xbox and haven’t snagged one yet, now might be the moment to make your move. Microsoft’s gaming division revealed that starting August 1, select Xbox models will see price increases, while others will be discontinued. This marks the third price hike for Xbox consoles since May 2025.

According to Microsoft, the cost of Xbox consoles with 512 GB of storage will rise by $100, and 1 TB models will jump by $150. Additionally, the 2 TB Xbox Series X will be phased out in August.

Here’s a look at the new Xbox console prices coming this August:

The Xbox Series X debuted in 2020 at $499, alongside the more affordable Xbox Series S, which launched at $299.

In a blog post, Microsoft expressed, “We hoped another price increase would not be necessary, and we have spent the last several months working with suppliers on options. Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x, and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027.”

To celebrate the brand’s 25th anniversary, Microsoft plans to unveil new Xbox hardware this November.

This news about rising Xbox prices follows a recent announcement that the Xbox Game Pass subscription service would see a slight price drop, as the previous higher rates led to a significant loss of subscribers.

This latest price increase comes just eight months after a previous hike in October and about a year after the initial adjustment in May 2025. Microsoft has mentioned potential ways to make consoles more accessible in the future, including payment plans, used and refurbished options, and interest-free financing.

Microsoft isn’t alone in this trend; Valve raised the price of the Steam Deck by $240 to $300 depending on the model in May, while Sony increased prices for PlayStation 5 consoles in April. Nintendo is also set to raise the price of the Switch 2 in September. These adjustments are largely due to the global shortage of computer memory, which has driven up costs for RAM and storage.

The rising prices for the Xbox Series X, Game Pass, and other Microsoft products have left many fans feeling frustrated.
