Key Highlights from the Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Spotlight Showcase

Capcom recently held a Capcom Spotlight, showcasing a variety of their upcoming and recently launched titles, including Resident Evil Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. However, the highlight for many fans was the news about the upcoming Dark Arisen expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2.

The showcase kicked off with a replay of the announcement trailer that debuted during the Nintendo Showcase on June 9, but the real excitement came with the reveal that Kento Kinoshita is back as director.

For those who might not know, Hideaki Itsuno, the original creator of Dragon’s Dogma and director of the first two games, left Capcom in August 2024, just five months after Dragon’s Dogma 2 launched. Interestingly, Itsuno didn’t direct the original Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen expansion; that was Kinoshita’s work. The first Dark Arisen expansion significantly enhanced the original game, so it’s great to see Kinoshita returning to helm Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen.

Before diving into the exciting details, there were a few quick mentions of new features coming to Dragon’s Dogma 2’s base game with the Dark Arisen release on October 9, 2026. Players can look forward to new hairstyles and tattoos for the character creator, as well as “12 unique dungeons” being added to the original map. While details on these dungeons are sparse, it’s nice to know that the original map will receive some fresh content, rather than everything being confined to the new region, Norgan.

Speaking of Norgan, it appears the Relic system from the original Dark Arisen will return in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. Players will discover armor and weapon relics hidden throughout Norgan, as well as earn them by defeating enemies. Once appraised, these relics may come with “special effects” and “unique skills.”

We also learned more about the undead dragon and the enigmatic woman from the previous trailer. Kinoshita mentioned that the “Fallen Dragon” is central to the expansion, and the mysterious woman, named Eir, has been on a quest to track it down. It’s delightfully vague, fitting the Dragon’s Dogma style, and definitely intriguing.

Additionally, there was a brief mention of an upcoming update that Capcom announced for the end of August. While it includes standard bug fixes and UI improvements, there are also performance enhancements and “pawn adjustments” in the works. Notably, there will be “adjustments” to the Dragonsplague mechanic. For those who enjoy the chaos of pawns potentially turning into a nuclear bomb due to this disease, Capcom is introducing “treatment methods” to cure it. One such item is the “Dragonsbaulk Draught,” which will relieve pawns of the affliction. Interestingly, there are also “benefits” to allowing pawns to contract Dragonsplague, potentially increasing their damage output.

The most exciting addition in the August update is the introduction of two new weapon skill slots. This was previously revealed, but it’s such a crucial enhancement that it deserves emphasis. I can’t wait to create an overpowered Wayfarer class by stacking more Mystic Spearhand and Magick Archer skills.

Overall, it’s shaping up to be fantastic. The planned quality-of-life improvements are promising, and hopefully, they’ll finally address the framerate issues that occur every time I enter Vernworth’s city square.
