Falco in Star Fox: The Ultimate Toxic DPS Experience

I haven’t jumped into Star Fox on the Switch 2 yet, but I have plenty of nostalgic memories of Star Fox 64. Back in the day, Falco Lombardi, the cocky bird pilot and Fox McCloud’s frenemy, was my go-to character. His snarky attitude and classic lines like “Hey Einstein, I’m on your side!” always cracked me up. Naturally, I was curious to see how the new remake would portray him and the rest of the team. I stumbled upon a clip that perfectly showcases Falco at his most frustrating: he’s the toxic DPS demanding heals in chat after recklessly diving into the enemy’s backline solo.

In the clip shared by a user, Falco cycles through various voice lines in under 30 seconds, at one point chastising the player for not providing the backup he desperately needs and lamenting the lack of “teamwork” they discussed in the Star Fox onboarding session. Then, when Fox finally comes to his aid, Falco turns on him for saving his skin and, moments later, accuses him of stealing his kills.

Clearly, many of these voice lines are triggered by different in-game situations, like Falco being overwhelmed by enemies or the player eliminating a foe near his Arwing, so it’s unusual to hear them in such quick succession. But wow, it definitely brought back memories of Overwatch, where an overzealous Genji would dash into danger and then complain about not getting healed after disappearing from my line of sight. Major props to the new voice actor for Falco, Andrew Russell, for nailing that aspect of the character.

Falco is such a legendary figure in Nintendo’s history, and it’s awesome to see him back in action. Not that he’d ever get sentimental about it, of course.

Star Fox launched on Switch 2 yesterday, and it’s already become a goldmine of both intentional and unintentional hilarity, especially with its VTuber-like avatars that let you overlay your favorite character’s portrait on your camera feed.
