Dead or Alive 6 Last Round Launches with 400+ DLCs, Requiring Players to Buy Previously Owned Content Again

Dead or Alive 6 Last Round, the revamped edition of the now-removed 2019 fighting game, hit Steam on June 25 to a wave of Mostly Negative reviews. Players voiced their frustrations over lingering bugs from the original game and the requirement to repurchase content they already owned.

This $40 re-release includes five additional characters, some graphical enhancements, and a new photo mode, but not much else. Fans were hoping for the inclusion of rollback netcode, a feature that has become a standard expectation for fighting games by 2026.

If that doesn’t satisfy your needs, the Steam store currently lists 440 pieces of DLC for the new game. While that sounds overwhelming, many of these are bundled versions of existing DLC. Additionally, several DLC characters are included in Dead or Alive 6 Last Round but appear on the store page as options for players who downloaded the free version, Dead or Alive 6 Last Round Core Fighters.

However, it feels more like Dead on Arrival 6: Last Scam.

On the downside, a significant portion of those DLCs are not included in the full $40 package and are merely carryovers from the 2019 version of Dead or Alive 6, which feels quite disrespectful. Even though Dead or Alive 6 Last Round allows for the transfer of some content from the original game, not everything can be moved over.

As noted, two DLC characters from the original game, Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond, must be repurchased even if you already own them, likely due to licensing issues. Since these characters are from the King of Fighters franchise, owned by SNK, Koei Tecmo seems to be stuck in this situation. While it’s easy to point fingers at SNK, it’s worth mentioning that since the re-release, the prices for all DLC characters have jumped from $8 to $11.

To add to the frustration, players have discovered that certain costumes from the original Dead or Alive 6 are unavailable in Dead or Alive 6 Last Round. There is a workaround: if you launch the original 2019 version of Dead or Alive 6, you can buy these costumes and transfer them. However, Koei Tecmo delisted those original versions on June 11, meaning if you don’t already own one, those costumes are now permanently out of reach.
