Players Spot Additional Differences Between Persona 4 Revival and Golden
Atlus’ upcoming Persona 4 Revival may introduce some fresh twists to the classic RPG that fans know and love. Initially, this remake of the 2008 original seemed to stick closely to the beloved 2012 Golden version. However, as new details emerge, it’s clear that some subtle changes are on the horizon, particularly regarding character outfits.
As we gear up for Revival’s release in 2027, Atlus has been sharing screenshots and updates on social media. A notable post from June 29 reintroduces players to the idol Rise Kujikawa, featuring three screenshots. The first showcases stunning splash art of Rise, while the second highlights the social link screen. The third image, however, has caught the attention of fans: it depicts Rise in an adorable pink outfit on stage, striking a pose. The date displayed is October 30, which aligns with a beauty pageant event in Persona 4. Interestingly, this outfit does not appear in either the original or Golden versions of the game.
Fans quickly recognized that this outfit isn’t entirely new to the Persona 4 universe; it originates from the 2015 rhythm spinoff, Persona 4: Dancing All Night. Some speculate that this could mean outfits from Dancing All Night will be available as optional costumes, a feature Atlus has included in several of its RPGs. Others suggest that this change might indicate a slight shift in canon, as the outfit appears during a cutscene in a well-known event from the main game.
The beauty pageant consists of two segments: casual wear and swimsuit. There’s speculation that the Dancing All Night outfit could replace the original attire in one of these phases. Fans are debating whether the casual wear or swimsuit section will see this alteration. Swapping out the casual wear for the more vibrant Dancing All Night outfits could make that segment more engaging. Conversely, completely removing the swimsuit section from a pageant featuring high school girls might be a welcome update, addressing some of the original title’s more outdated elements. The beauty pageant also includes a few comedic moments that may not resonate well with modern audiences, particularly a segment involving the male cast.
From what Atlus has revealed so far, it appears that no significant content from the original or Golden versions of Persona 4 is being cut from Revival. The official announcement trailer even featured Marie, a character exclusive to Golden. Whatever the reasoning behind the change to Rise’s outfit in the beauty pageant, it seems more like a thoughtful update rather than a complete overhaul.
Persona 4 Revival is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on February 18, 2027.
