Moomin’s 24-Hour Official Livestream Returns on YouTube!

After a long day, I felt inspired to share my thoughts on something I truly adore: the nonstop 24/7 livestream of Moomin episodes on the official Moomin YouTube channel.

But when I went to grab the link, the stream was nowhere to be found. The Moomins have disappeared, and I’m heartbroken. Please bring them back!

The Moomins are these charming, round, white, hippo-like creatures created by Finnish author and illustrator Tove Jansson. They inhabit the enchanting Moominvalley, filled with quirky fantasy beings and a few peculiar humans. While the stories are whimsical and suitable for kids, they don’t condescend like much of children’s media. There are no lessons about numbers or letters, and often, characters like Little My act out without facing any repercussions. The tales mainly revolve around the Moomins and their friends embarking on small adventures in the fields, woods, and beaches of Moominvalley, encountering magic and mischief, but always returning home safely.

My love for the Moomins primarily comes from a ’90s Japanese TV adaptation simply titled Moomin. It follows Moomin, his father Moominpappa, his mother Moominmamma, a human girl named Little My, and Moomin’s best buddy Snufkin as they navigate the changing seasons in Moominvalley. They find themselves in all sorts of situations, like being mistaken for hippos when zoo animals escape, flying in a ship, meeting a witch and wrongly accusing her, and attempting (and failing) to hibernate through winter.

Moomin is a delightful, calming show that often feels a bit aimless, and I’ve loved having the 24/7 livestream from the official Moomin YouTube channel. Whenever I struggle to sleep due to racing thoughts, I turn it on, and it helps me relax and drift off. I also enjoy having it on in the background while I work or watching a bit at the end of a hectic day to unwind.

That is, until the livestream went offline.

This has happened a few times in the past six months, according to chatter on the Moomin subreddit, and each time, the stream has returned. I’m not sure how long it’s been down this time (I haven’t checked in a while), but I’m really bummed to see it missing from my recommendations. I hope it comes back soon. The newer Moomin adaptations, which include several video games and a TV revival, just don’t resonate with me. They feel a bit forced, lacking the charm of the original animation style. On a brighter note, the Moomin YouTube channel has most, if not all, episodes organized in a playlist, so you can watch them that way.

Still, there was something special about the spontaneity of the livestream—tuning in and finding yourself in the middle of an adventure, never knowing what Moomin would be up to next. Please bring back the 24/7 Moomin livestream. I miss those lovable, goofy round guys.
