July 2026 PlayStation Plus Games Announced, Featuring a New Call of Duty to Gear Up for Modern Warfare 4

On Wednesday, Sony Interactive revealed the free PlayStation Plus Essential games for July. Starting Tuesday, July 7, subscribers can download Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, For the King 2, and CrossCode.

Here’s what’s on offer for July 2026:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 marks the latest installment in the iconic FPS series. The Modern Warfare subseries was rebooted in 2019 with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, followed by a sequel in 2022. Initially intended as an expansion for its predecessor, Modern Warfare 3 evolved into a standalone title, which may explain the mixed reception of its campaign. Players will join Task Force 141 in their mission to prevent World War III. While the campaign has its critics, the multiplayer experience is where many players will likely spend their time, and the game also features a Zombies mode reminiscent of Call of Duty: Warzone.

For the King 2 offers a unique RPG adventure that fuses roguelike mechanics with tabletop gameplay. You can embark on this journey solo or team up with up to four players to battle against a tyrannical queen and her forces. The 30-hour campaign is divided into seven distinct adventures, and a new battle grid system emphasizes the importance of positioning in its turn-based combat.

CrossCode is a nostalgic action RPG that channels the spirit of classic SNES games. With “Zelda-esque dungeons” and fast-paced combat, players can expect a sci-fi adventure that spans anywhere from 30 to 80 hours. Engage with over 120 enemy types across seven expansive dungeons while tackling more than 100 quests. CrossCode is brimming with content, earning it over 10,000 “very positive” reviews on Steam.

You can still grab the free PlayStation Plus Essential games from June—Grounded Fully Yoked Edition, Nickelodeon All Star Brawl 2, and Warhammer 40,000: Darktide—until July 7.

PlayStation Plus Essential is the entry-level tier of Sony’s subscription service, providing online multiplayer access, a monthly selection of free PS4 and PS5 games, cloud storage, and discounts on PlayStation Store purchases. The subscription costs $79.99 annually, $27.99 for three months, or $10.99 monthly, following a price increase across all tiers in May.

Grim announcement assures that PlayStation 6 will be digital only.
