Sony to Shut Down Digital Stores for PS3 and Vita

The PlayStation store is entering its final chapter for the PS3 and PS Vita, as Sony prepares to shut down its digital distribution service for both consoles. The closure of the PlayStation store on PS3 will begin in select regions later this year, including Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua starting in August, with more Latin American and Middle Eastern countries set to follow in late 2026.

The complete shutdown for both PS3 and PS Vita in all other regions will take place in July 2027. After this date, players will no longer be able to buy new content, but they can still download games they’ve already purchased “for the foreseeable future” after the deadline. So, if you haven’t snagged certain titles for these classic consoles—celebrating their 20th and 15th anniversaries this year—you still have a bit of time left.

Sony acknowledged that this news might be disheartening for PS3 and PS Vita fans who cherish this era of gaming. They stated, “As we continue to expand the PlayStation experience on newer devices that most of our users are playing on today, we need to focus more resources on delivering the best gaming experiences on these platforms as we look ahead towards the future.”

This announcement coincides with Sony’s plans to halt all production of physical PlayStation discs for games released after January 2028, raising concerns about how future releases will be preserved given the limited lifespan of digital stores.
