World of Warcraft Addresses Long-Standing Settings Issue After 22 Years

Hey everyone! I’ve got a fun idea. How about we create some new characters in World of Warcraft together? It’ll be a blast! We can kick things off by watching the intro cutscene, spend a couple of minutes customizing our UI for the few spells we have at level 1, chat with the initial quest-givers, and then venture out into the Mulgore plains to take down some Plainstriders.

Oh, look! This one dropped some loot. Let’s check it out. I click on the Plainstrider and open the loot window. I see Leg Meat, a Light Feather, and a Cracked Shortbow.

I sit there for a few seconds, waiting. Nothing happens.

Oh no! I forgot that I need to loot each item manually because I didn’t toggle the autoloot setting in the menu.

Is this a super minor thing to do? Just a single box to check in the settings? Absolutely. But since World of Warcraft launched 22 years ago, players have had to do this for every single character they create. Because who wants to loot items one by one? Nobody has time to click through every grey item that drops from enemies! Autoloot is such a lifesaver! Just one click on the enemy’s corpse and everything goes straight into your inventory—no hassle, no fuss! Why wouldn’t I want this to happen automatically every time?

Anyway, you get the idea. The developers are finally addressing this long-standing annoyance in the upcoming major patch, Curse of Ula’tek.

Curse of Ula’tek is much more than just a simple UI tweak. It introduces a new zone, an eight-boss raid, new world bosses, delves, quests, a new dungeon season, and a ton of other content. It sounds awesome! The theme revolves around the Amani trolls and the storyline that began with the Midnight expansion, so we can expect plenty of waterlogged ruins, impressive troll architecture, and enemies that resemble various types of snakes. It’s launching in less than a week, and I can’t wait to explore this new “Coiled Isle” area we’ll be heading to.

But most importantly, I’ll finally be able to open the settings menu and set my autoloot option to be account-wide. This means that the next time I create a character, autoloot will already be enabled for me. I won’t have to think about this issue ever again. Thanks for that!
