Onimusha: Way of the Sword fans rejoice as release date gets pushed up!

The latter part of 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting time for gamers, with one of the highlights being Onimusha: Way of the Sword. This upcoming action-adventure RPG from Capcom transports players to ancient Kyoto, Japan, where you step into the shoes of a samurai equipped with a powerful gauntlet to battle the Genma, eerie creatures emerging from the underworld.

Originally set for a September 25 release, the game has been moved up to Friday, September 4. The official game account shared that what was once a pre-order bonus will now be an “early adopter bonus,” available on all platforms until September 24 at 11:59 p.m. local time, or until 4:59 p.m. PDT on Steam and Epic Games Store. This bonus includes a lion dog charm and a sealed curse sword appearance for the standard edition, while the deluxe and premium deluxe editions also feature a white monkey charm and a white lion sword appearance.

Players can get a sneak peek of Onimusha: Way of the Sword now, as a demo is available on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC (both Steam and Epic). The demo showcases a portion of the game’s “satisfying action” and includes an early segment of the adventure. Plus, those who try out the demo will receive a kubi akari charm when the full game launches.

This new release date means Onimusha: Way of the Sword will debut just a day after The Blood of Dawnwalker, another eagerly awaited RPG. However, it avoids a direct clash with Silent Hill: Townfall or Control Resonant, giving players a bit more time to dive into the game before Grand Theft Auto 6 drops in November.

Capcom’s revival of the samurai action franchise offers a refreshing twist for fans.
