Upcoming Attack on Titan game to feature a cinematic intro crafted by MAPPA.

Koei Tecmo has just dropped a wealth of new details about Attack on Titan 3, the latest game inspired by the immensely popular manga. First unveiled a month ago during Summer Game Fest 2026, this title aims to cover the entire storyline of the manga and is set to launch this Winter.

The game was the focus of an extensive 45-minute presentation on July 1, which included a gameplay trailer. The first two entries in the Attack on Titan series, developed by Omega Force, were released in 2016 and 2018, each only adapting parts of the original narrative. Unlike Attack on Titan 2, which left off at a specific point, Attack on Titan 3 will encompass the full story, which has also been brought to life in an anime adaptation. As with previous games, this installment will feature a main storyline centered around missions, but it will also introduce a new open-world mode that allows players to explore the game world at their own pace. The beloved ODM gameplay, which enables players to swing around using grappling wires, has been refined for a more fluid experience.

While scouting missions and titan battles will be the core focus, Attack on Titan 3 offers more than just combat. The presentation highlighted opportunities for players to interact with characters from the series. Instead of stepping into the shoes of the main character, Eren Yeager, players will create their own original character who will engage in the pivotal events of the story.

The gameplay reveal trailer concluded with a release window announcement for Attack on Titan 3, indicating a launch sometime between late 2026 and early 2027. In an exciting twist, it was revealed that MAPPA, the animation studio known for Attack on Titan: The Final Season and other popular series like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, will be animating the game’s opening cinematic. Arifumi Imai, an animator known for his work on Attack on Titan, will direct this cinematic. Interestingly, Koei Tecmo mentioned that the opening cinematic will not be available at launch but will be added in a future update after the game’s release.

Attack on Titan 3 is set to launch this winter on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S.

The final battle is about to begin again.
